Can Dual Energy CT with Fast kV-Switching Determine Renal Stone Composition Accurately?

Rationale and Objectives To determine whether a single source computed tomography (CT) system utilizing fast kV switching low dose settings can characterize (diameter chemical composition) renal stones accurately when compared infrared spectroscopy. Materials Methods The composition of 15 was determined using Fourier transform were inserted into porcine kidney placed within water tank for CT scanning both dual energy standard protocols. Effective atomic number each stone measured scanner software. Stone diameter measurements repeated twice to intra-rater variation actual as by micro CT. Results three (one calcium phosphate two carbonite apatite) could not be the 10/12 remaining correctly identified (83% absolute agreement; k = 0.69). No statistical difference (p 0.051) noted in mean clinical Conclusion Dual may potentially developed tool identifying classifying vivo supporting decision-making.
